Head of Development & European Digital Policy
Valerie and her team focus on helping policy makers, corporates and entrepreneurs make the most of the digital transformation. Most recently, Valerie launched Readie, a centre that helps European policy makers design innovative digital policies. She also set up Nesta's programme to foster collaborations between big companies and technology startups and authored 'Winning together: a guide to successful corporate-startup collaborations', launched with the Startup Europe Partnership and Founders Forum and used by over 300 leading corporates in the last year. Valerie has built many new partnerships with organisations ranging from Google and Telefónica to Endeavor, the World Bank and the European Commission. She regularly speaks on digitalisation and entrepreneurship at events including the CeBIT, the OECD Forum and the Global Entrepreneurship Congress. Valerie also holds various advisory positions, for example as Director of Strategy of the Global Entrepreneurship Research Network, which is run by the Kauffman Foundation, the Global Entrepreneurship Network and Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Before joining Nesta, Valerie has worked in E.ON's strategy team for renewable energies and on open innovation with the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (Germany's Academic Scholarship Foundation).
Valerie holds a BA in Archaeology and a MSc in Environmental Policy, both with a distinction, from the University of Oxford.
