Olly headed up the communications department, leading a team of digital, media, events, editorial and corporate affairs specialists. He was responsible for setting and delivering the organisation's corporate communications strategy, focusing on raising Nesta’s profile and increasing its reach across all its key audiences. While at Nesta, he oversaw the organisation’s digital, brand and marketing strategies, and helped the team deliver a number of high profile public-facing campaigns each year, including FutureFest, Predictions, New Radicals, The Long+Short magazine and the award-winning 2014 Longitude Prize. In his career at Nesta Olly implemented a digital transformation strategy for the organisation, designed a new website and digital training programme, embedded a new set of values to help guide behaviour, and built a new brand for a new-look Nesta. Olly worked in media training and broadcast TV before coming to Nesta. He started out as a runner at a media training agency in Millbank. After training as an online journalist he moved into the world of digital, working in a start-up environment for GMTV’s first ever website. He quickly moved up the ranks to become Deputy Editor, then moved into digital strategy for ITV.
He has worked on a number of award winning digital campaigns, designing ways to create a seamless experience between online and on-air content.
