Director, Innovation Skills
As Director, Sonja leads the team responsible for one of Nesta’s central missions - to spread innovation skills and strengthen the conditions that allow innovation to thrive.
The Innovation Skills team brings together Learning and Experience Designers, Digital and Communication experts and a growing network of innovation practitioners, associates and fellows who help people change how they do things and build innovation as a capability. Working closely with both internal and external subject matter experts and partners, the team help shape learning content, programmes, materials and tools that help people put innovation into practice.
During her five years at Nesta, Sonja has been instrumental in designing new partnerships, projects and programmes with UK, European and worldwide clients. She has helped build a growing portfolio of learning programmes and initiatives that draw upon Nesta’s innovation knowhow. These range from a one-day Evidence Masterclasses for high-level policy and decision-makers in the UK and overseas, through to the States of Change initiative, which includes a 6 to 12-month learning programme for public servants around the world delivered through a global faculty of practitioners. She has also helped build a global network of workshop facilitators to help strengthen creative and social enterprises through a partnership with the British Council.
Sonja has spent 20 years working in design and innovation. Before joining Nesta, she was Head of Design at the Design Council where she played a key role in the design and development of its Leadership Programmes for the public and private sectors and led the scaling of its Design Associate network. Sonja has a Masters in Vehicle Design from the Royal College of Art and a First Class Hons degree in Design Management.
