Chief Investments Officer
Matt led the venture investing team which manages a £25 million portfolio which currently has 20 live investments and five limited partner positions. Following Nesta’s transition to charitable status, Matt helped to develop, and now runs, Nesta’s social impact investment fund working alongside Joe Ludlow. Matt also led the venture investing team (a £25 million portfolio), led the management of the Nesta Trust, a £350 million investment portfolio, and oversaw Nesta’s business development activity.
Matt joined Nesta from 3i where he was a partner in its venture capital business. Matt invested in a number of notable successes at 3i, including Vistorm (sold to EDS), Datanomic (sold to Oracle), Nimbus Partners (sold to TIBCO), and Garlik (sold to Experian). Matt then led the disposal of 3i’s venture portfolio in 2007 to 2009 in a series of international secondary portfolio disposals.
Matt is an ACA qualified accountant and had a ten year corporate finance career at EY prior to joining 3i. He is currently on the venture committee of the BVCA and on the Board of the British Business Angels Association.
