What I do

Sylvia is Director of Brand and Marketing.  She works in the Comms team and heads up the Brand and Marketing Unit - with responsibility for Nesta brand guardianship and telling the Nesta story.


Sylvia was previously a Director in Nesta's Innovation Lab, leading Nesta's work on education and young people.

Before joining Nesta, Sylvia was Head of UK Innovation at Comic Relief where she was responsible for developing new revenue streams (including Comic Relief’s first year-round product), managing an innovation process, and keeping Comic Relief abreast of new markets and technologies.  

Prior to that, she worked as a marketeer for FMCG companies such as Diageo in global brand management roles; and as a consultant with innovation and brand strategy consultancy, The Value Engineers.    

Sylvia is a graduate of Cambridge University where she studied Social and Political Sciences.

Outside of work, Sylvia sits on the parent forum of her daughter's nursery. She plays the piano and speaks a little Serbian.


The BBC has brought together many different partners to deliver its Make it Digital season - but partnership working hasn't always sat naturally with the BBC. Could the BBC adopt now a permanent strategy for education that uses its reach and digital capabilities to help audiences from all walks of life access the best educational materials on offer from partner organisations?

Digital making needs to be an everyday pastime for all young people if we want to foster a generation of digital creators - as unremarkable as playing sport, listening to music, reading books or playing computer games. Seeing it on Eastenders is a good place to start.
