Michael Fell

Mike is a senior researcher in the sustainable future mission at Nesta, on secondment from his role as a senior research fellow at University College London (UCL).

The focus of his work is flexibility in household electricity use and in particular how a broader range of households can be enabled to provide (and benefit from) flexibility. Flexibility is an important part of the net-zero carbon transition, for example by allowing us to make better use of renewable electricity generation.

As well as his work at UCL, Mike has also spent time at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, in parliament and at the House of Commons Library. Before entering academia he worked for a sustainability book publisher as the energy commissioning editor.

Alongside his work, he enjoys learning about coding and artificial intelligence, doing art, brewing beer and going for walks in the country.
