We develop and promote policy ideas that are critical to achieving our missions.
The applied nature of Nesta’s work – as an innovation partner and venture builder designing and testing interventions and services – has given us clarity on the policy changes that would bring about the impact at scale we want to see on our missions.
Our policy work therefore aims to identify and refine policy ideas and delivery models which will unlock progress on our mission goals.
But we also go broad, leveraging Nesta's expertise to develop and promote ideas that could enable progress on our missions, supporting the UK’s governments in Westminster, Edinburgh and Cardiff to deliver better and more effectively.
All our work aims to bridge the policy-delivery divide, with just as much focus on the ‘how’ as the ‘what’.
From childcare to technical education, how can we give children and young people the best and fairest start?
From public health to social care, what options do our policymakers have?
What options do we have for achieving net zero, and what benefits could different policies bring?
What policy options could spur growth?
Who makes the decisions, at what level and how, to achieve the best policy outcomes?
We develop and test ideas for policy change – including how ‘test and learn’ approaches can support progress on complex social issues – build products such as ‘Be the Chancellor’ that help people engage with complex issues and trade-offs, and convene across sectors and disciplines, as with Policy Live, to thrash out what might work and how.
