Joyful: The surprising power of ordinary things to create extraordinary happiness

It’s time to rethink joy: Nesta Chief Executive Geoff Mulgan was joined in conversation by former IDEO Design Director and thought leader Ingrid Fetell Lee, to discuss her new book “JOYFUL: The surprising power of ordinary things to create extraordinary happiness”. Also joining the conversation was Director of Action for Happiness Mark Williamson in what was an uplifting and playful discussion.

For eight years Ingrid Fetell Lee studied the latest research in psychology and neuroscience and travelled the globe,in order to understand the ‘aesthetics of joy’. In Joyful, she reveals the tangible roots of joy and shows how we can all find – and create – more of it.

As part of the discussion focussed on topics such as why some colours, shapes, textures, patterns, seem to create universal joy, whether joy can be material and physical, and whether instead of coming from within, joy can actually come from without, plus some examples as to how we can all capture the power of joy in our everyday lives.
