Policy Live brings together people from across government, industry, academia and civil society to share evidence and ideas. We want everyone who attends - whether as a guest, speaker or partner - to feel welcome, respected, safe from discrimination, harassment and bullying, and able to take part fully.

This code of conduct sets out what we expect from everyone at the event, and what happens if those expectations aren't met. It applies to attendees, speakers, exhibitors, partners and Nesta staff, at the venue and at any associated online spaces or social events. All examples of behaviours included in this code are for illustration purposes only and are not exhaustive. 

By choosing to attend our event, you agree to comply with this code of conduct. This code of conduct supplements our terms and conditions for the event, and does not restrict any rights we may have under those terms and conditions to refuse admission to the event, or remove any person from the event.

We ask everyone at Policy Live to:

• treat other attendees, speakers and staff with courtesy and respect
• engage with different perspectives openly, even where you disagree
• give speakers and fellow attendees your attention during sessions
• follow the instructions of venue staff and Nesta's event team
• respect the venue's fire safety, security and licensing requirements

We don't tolerate harassment, discrimination or intimidation of any kind. This includes, but isn't limited to:

• offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, race, age, pregnancy and maternity, marriage or civil partnership, religion or belief
• unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention
• threats or acts of violence, intimidation, stalking or following
• sustained disruption of talks or sessions
• shouting or verbal abuse
• photography or recording of individuals without their consent

If you're asked to stop a particular behaviour, we expect you to do so immediately.

Please respect the privacy of other attendees. Don't record, photograph or share someone's contribution, image or personal information without asking them first.

Everyone at Policy Live is expected to comply with the law and with the venue's own policies, including those covering health and safety, fire safety and licensing. Nesta reserves the right (in its absolute discretion) to end the event, or ask an individual to leave, if behaviour is judged to put attendees, staff or the event itself at risk. No refund will be given in these circumstances.

If you experience or witness behaviour that breaches this code, please tell us as soon as you can. You can:

• speak to any member of Nesta staff wearing a staff lanyard and ask them to direct you to the Group Events Lead or Director of Communications
• email [email protected]

We'll treat all reports seriously and in confidence and will follow up with anyone who raises a concern.

Depending on the nature of the concern, we may ask someone to change their behaviour, remove them from a session, or ask them to leave the event entirely. In serious cases, we may take further action, including barring someone from future Nesta events.
