How did we become so divided and what do we do about it?

As a society, we have become disconnected - with most of us spending less and less time with people who are different (as defined by age, race, or class, earning power or education).

But the more time we spend with people unlike ourselves, the more understanding, tolerant and friendly we become. Jon, Executive Director of the Youth Endowment Fund and Nesta CEO Ravi Gurumurthy were in conversation on Thursday 17 June at midday as they explored how the pandemic has created an unprecedented opportunity for us to come together.

Nesta have partnered up with independent book shop Primrose Books who are offering a discount on Jon's book, Fractured: Why our societies are coming apart and how we put them back together again. Fractured unravels three mysteries: Why are we so divided? Why does it matter? How do we fix it? The book has been described by the Archbishop of Canterbury as 'remarkable .. practical and provocative'. David Lammy called it an 'expert ... urgent manifesto', Dame Louise Casey termed it, “essential” while David Goodhart said it was “the post-pandemic manifesto we need”.
