Mapping the heat: a tool for delivering local heat plans - 17 Nov 2026 12:00 – 13:00

Local authorities often face hurdles when trying to implement suitable and practical low-carbon solutions, making planning neighbourhood-wide decarbonisation a complex task. Local authorities across England, Scotland and Wales need clear guidance and reliable data to lead the transition to clean heat across UK homes.

To support local heat planning, we’ve created a free-to-use digital mapping tool to help teams identify the most suitable low-carbon heating options at a local, granular level. Join us on Tuesday 17 November 2026, 12:00-13:00 (GMT) for an interactive webinar to learn more about the tool and hear from the designers behind it.

Sofia Pinto, principal data scientist at Nesta and Andy Marsden, design lead at Nesta, will give a live demonstration of the tool, show you how to access data for your local area and provide step-by-step guidance from planning to delivery. Following this, you’ll hear from Emily Brown at Midlothian Council and Katie Treadwell, senior energy project manager at the West Midlands Combined Authority. They will share learnings on using the tool as a local authority. The panel will then answer your questions about coordinated switching to clean heat at a local level and the tool.

Who should attend?

This online event is particularly relevant for:

  • Local and combined authorities
  • Representatives from the supply chain
  • Other key stakeholders, particularly planning, energy, asset management, social housing and decarbonisation teams
  • Net zero hubs and policymakers in central government

Join us to see how this tool can help your council move from strategy to delivery on making clean heat accessible across all housing tenures.
