Nigel is the Director of Nesta's Media and Corporate Affairs team. He helps tell Nesta's story and the stories of the people and projects that we work with.

Nigel and the media team are the first port of call for journalist enquiries about Nesta and the partnerships that we work in, spanning all areas of Nesta work - talking about Nesta’s innovation-led economic policies one moment and innovations to prevent isolation in old age the next.

Nigel started his career in PR working with health and technology communications agencies, building on his fascination with biology and his degree in biochemistry. He then explored journalism, joining BBC regional radio for five years as a producer and presenter of current affairs, music and arts programmes.

His career then took him into in-house communications roles focusing on charities and not-for-profit organisations with a mission to tackle social challenges. Starting as Chief Media Officer for Greenpeace International in Amsterdam, he returned to the UK to lead communications for The Design Council and then Rethink Mental Illness.

Away from life at Nesta, Nigel enjoys playing the cello with The Lambeth Orchestra, and is a trustee of Vauxhall City Farm. A keen DIY-er, he is in the middle of an ongoing renovation of his doer-upper house in south London, and is a keen gardener, helping tend the plots in his local neighbourhood.
