Moira has been Provost of Oriel College, Oxford since 2013, following more than 20 years' experience in civil service roles across Whitehall.
She began her career in the Treasury, served as Economic Affairs Private Secretary to Prime Ministers Major and Blair, and was the first Director of the Government's Social Exclusion Unit. At the Home Office, she was Chief Executive of the Office of Criminal Justice Reform, and then Director General of Crime and Policing. In 2008, she was appointed Permanent Secretary to the newly formed Department of Energy and Climate Change, which she led for four years.
A graduate of Cambridge and Harvard Universities, Moira was a Visiting Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford from 2000 – 2008, and a Visiting Professor at the LSE Centre for the Analysis of Social Exclusion from 2013 to 2016.
