Mat was a Data Foresight Analyst in Nesta’s Discovery Hub
Mat’s career has focused on public engagement and education. Before joining Nesta, he led Wellcome’s informal science learning programme. Among other things, his work has modernised the genetics taught in UK schools; supported a significant research programme built on research-practice partnerships; and, through a collaboration with BBC Children in Need, enabled children and young people affected by disadvantage to explore and engage with science in their own settings, in ways that are most meaningful to them.
Previously, Mat was a research scientist having completed a PhD at the University of Bristol in molecular neuroscience.
Out of work, Mat is not dissimilar to a greyhound - either running long distances (he has done a few ultra marathons) and being generally quite active, or sitting on the sofa enjoying film and TV.
