Nesta is a research and innovation foundation. We apply our deep expertise in applied methods to design, test and scale solutions to some of the biggest challenges of our time, working across the innovation lifecycle.
Designer, Design & Technology
Ellen works as a designer in our healthy life mission, bringing designer-led and people-centred methods into our research and innovation work.
She is passionate about ethical practice and the value design brings to engagement with systemic complexity and ambiguity.
Before joining Nesta, Ellen led design research at the strategic design consultancy DK&A, where she focused on working with service users to understand systems, frame problems and test interventions. She applied co-design for social impact across a range of projects, from shaping anti-racism policies with learners and staff in the Welsh further education sector, to developing new age-appropriate healthcare services with medical teams and young people with chronic conditions.
She holds an MA in Information Experience Design from the Royal College of Art and has a background in humanising digital experience— having worked in UX roles and on the visual storytelling team at the Financial Times.
As a dabbler in creative code, she has built musical instrument platforms to add tangibility to the experience of digital music production. She loves music, experimental cooking and being near the sea.
We extend our impact through two specialised units that help people and organisations to solve complex problems and achieve their goals.
BIT helps clients from government, nonprofits and the private sector to improve people’s lives through our empirical problem solving and deep understanding of human behaviour.
Challenge Works designs and runs challenge prizes to spark innovation in science, technology and society.
Join our mailing list to receive the Nesta Edit, our regular newsletter showcasing how we design, test and scale solutions to some of society's biggest challenges, with updates from Nesta, BIT, Challenge Works and the wider innovation sector.
