Nesta, the innovation charity, has announced the wind down of People Powered Results, a Nesta Enterprise that delivers innovation programmes for social impact with a focus on place-based and people-focused approaches.
Over the past nine years, People Powered Results has pioneered new approaches to achieving change and innovation in systems, working with over 500 local and national organisations and more than 100,000 people to create the conditions and cultures required to rapidly adopt new innovations and scale what works.
The decision to wind down People Powered Results is due to Nesta’s mission-driven strategy to 2030, which was introduced in 2020. With People Powered Results focusing its ambitions more widely than the three missions and methods that Nesta is committed to, Nesta is no longer the right home for its work. The team have spent time exploring other ways to continue People Powered Results’ work through alternative host organisations or as an independent entity, but unfortunately these options have not proven viable for the whole People Powered Results team.
Whilst Nesta is still exploring ways to continue developing the People Powered Results portfolio of work in Scotland, the broader team will cease all activities by the end of July 2023.
Over the next few months, staff will be prioritising delivering their existing portfolio and building their legacy by sharing their learning and insights through a series of events and content.
Ravi Gurumurthy, Chief Executive of Nesta, said:
“Nesta has helped to shape the growth and dynamism of innovation in the UK through enterprises such as People Powered Results. We are proud of their contributions, which have included designing place-based strategies, developing national guidance and policy, and contributing to the resilience of health systems during the COVID-19 pandemic. In their final chapter the team are developing ways of sharing their learning and methods with the world in a way that supports their practical application on an ongoing basis.”
Kate Simpson and Catherine Russell, Co-Directors of People Powered Results, said:
“We’re extremely proud of the team and the difference that our work has made in the world. Over the last 9 years, we have built a tried and tested set of innovation methods that we have applied in systems and places across the UK. Whilst Nesta is no longer the right home for the work, we are seeing a growing recognition of the need for, and value of, people powered approaches in bringing innovative solutions to complex systemic issues.
As part of our legacy, we are working to convene people actively engaged in People Powered work to consider what the sector needs now and to share our learning and insights.”
We will be running two online events to dive deeper into people powered approaches and share our methods and tools. We would love for you to join us, please see more details and sign up below.
