Inventors - have your say!

Consultation opens to shape the Inventor Prize announced in the Industrial Strategy

19 June 2017: Nesta has opened a consultation to help shape the upcoming Inventor Prize pilot. The Inventor Prize, which opens for entry later this summer, is a challenge prize pilot to inspire and harness the potential of the UK’s home-grown inventors, supporting them to get their products to market and overcome any barriers they may face.

The Inventor Prize will find, test and reward inventions that impact on the major issues affecting our lives. The Prize was announced in the Industrial Strategy green paper, launched by Prime Minister Theresa May in January. The Prize will be run by Nesta’s Challenge Prize Centre with funding from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

The consultation phase is asking experts, inventors and the public about the support needed to get ideas and products from concept to market. The consultation is open from 19 June to 17 July 2017.

People can have their say on the shape of the Inventor Prize by completing the online survey at http://inventor.challenges.org and by registering their interest to attend the prize design workshop.

Charlotte Macken, programme manager for the Inventor Prize, said, “Challenge prizes act as a powerful incentive for encouraging innovation, by surfacing, supporting and testing new ideas. We’re calling on professional and amateur inventors alike to have their say to shape the Inventor Prize so it will truly support the invention process from shed to shelf.”
