The Innovation Lab was launched in 2009, and is now a 40-person strong team. Our focus is on supporting innovation in education, local and central government, the arts, the collaborative economy and civil society.
Last year, we also launched Y Lab, a partnership between Nesta and Cardiff University to set up a public services innovation lab in Wales. Through the Challenge Prize Centre, we tackle a range of issues - everything from resistance to antibiotics through the Longitude Prize, to designing inclusive tech to aid people living with disabilities.
The Innovation Lab exists to support great ideas regardless of where they come from. Our mission is to incubate innovation, scale what works and incentivise the adoption of new innovation methods and approaches.
We work very closely with the people we support; regularly offering other kinds of support to accompany funding for organisations who are genuinely trying something new and untested.
We encourage the people and organisations we work with to improve their evidence of impact and working in partnership with our skills team, regularly share what is learned via playbooks and toolkits, as well as showcasing what we learn through blogs, events, workshops and to international audiences.
Our values mean that we never work alone - and we are always interested in talking to potential partners, from across the sectors, who have a similar ambition to innovate to tackle persistent, big problems.
