Nearly a million adults in Scotland and Wales struggle to afford sufficient, private and secure access to the internet. This is data poverty.

Online access is no longer a luxury - the pandemic has shown that it is essential to our lives. Without the internet, we are excluded from connecting with people, from fulfilling work or homeschooling duties, from job hunting and accessing vital local services and support, and excluded from the financial savings that can be gained from online access.

Knowledge around data poverty is scarce. We know it exists, but we haven't yet been able to quantify the scale and depth of the problem. Our Data Poverty in Scotland and Wales report seeks to fill that knowledge gap. Alongside the research, we've interviewed people from Wales and Scotland who are struggling to afford the data access they need. These are their stories.
