What’s the big idea?

Good for Nothing is an online community of people working together to help grass roots innovators make a positive social impact.

Why we like Tom

Tech entrepreneur Tom Farrand co-founded Good for Nothing with Dan Burgess and Tom Rowley to encourage experimentation and collaboration among innovators and entrepreneurs.

The network helped develop the Good Gym, a community exercise programme that gets runners to carry out physical tasks that other members of the community need done. It also supported the DoNation, a website where people pledge to do socially useful tasks.

In total, Good for Nothing has grown into a network of over 3,000 people in global 26 cities.

Tom also serves as founding partner of Swarm, a small network of partners that prototypes and incubates social and environmental ventures.

He has 18 years’ experience working on brand and business innovation for major international companies, including Procter & Gamble, WPP and the Oliver Wyman Group. He left the corporate sector in 2009 to focus on sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship.

Tom has contributed to various social and environmental impact projects, including Project Wild Thing, a film-led initiative getting kids to engage with nature, and Cell Slider, a website getting people involved in cancer research.
