Using behavioural insights to increase families’ take-up of the 2-year-old offer - 18 May 2021 13:00 – 15:30

Nesta, in collaboration with the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT), is offering a series of webinars for local authority Early Years teams who are interested in increasing take up of their 2 year-old offer.

During the series we will cover:

  1. Evaluation techniques to scientifically test the impact of policy changes.
  2. How to run a rapid Randomised controlled trial (RCT) to test a communication (e.g. email or letter) designed to increase uptake of the Free Early Education Entitlement for 2-year-olds.
  3. How to apply behavioural insights to enhance current policies and practices.

Between the webinars, local authority teams have the option of receiving additional guidance from BIT on how to run an RCT to test approaches to improving uptake of the 2-year old offer.

Coaching will include:

  • Setting realistic objectives for your trial
  • Re-designing a communication (e.g. email or letter) using behavioural insights
  • Conducting the randomisation of participants
  • Monitoring the trial to ensure its smooth running
  • Analysing results

At the webinars there will be opportunities for local authorities to learn from each other about what has worked well and what challenges they have encountered through this process.

This series is for early years teams in local authorities.

Each Council may send up to three colleagues to the webinar series and are encouraged to attend all sessions. You will automatically be invited to all three webinars when you register, although we appreciate that it may not be possible for you to attend all three. When registering, you will be able to create a group booking for yourself and your colleagues. We ask that you do not create multiple registrations for your Council.
