Head of Impact and Research, Raspberry Pi Foundation
Oliver was a programme manager for Nesta’s digital education projects. He is now Head of Impact and Research at the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
Oliver’s background is in education, originally as a teacher developing the use of new technologies in primary schools for which he won the ALT ‘Learning Technologist of the year’ award. He was one of the first wave of ‘Google Certified Teachers’ outside of the USA, and worked on using new technologies to underpin approaches to project based learning.
Before joining Nesta he worked as a lecturer in primary education at Plymouth University. Here he developed a culture of using social media for the professional development of student teachers, led the ICT and Digital Literacy specialist pathways and designed the course preparing teachers for the computing curriculum. He was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s award for ‘inspirational teaching’ and the Student Union award for ‘innovative use of teaching methods’.
Oliver has been an education blogger since starting his career as a teacher. His book The Thinking Teacher was published in 2014 and calls for teachers to question the assumptions we have about education, and construct themselves as leaders who encourage young people to question and evaluate society.
