About Nesta

Nesta is a research and innovation foundation. We apply our deep expertise in applied methods to design, test and scale solutions to some of the biggest challenges of our time, working across the innovation lifecycle.

Our mission is to reduce home carbon emissions in the UK by 30%.

Scotland needs to make the most of its renewable energy. To meet climate targets, 110,000 heat pumps need to be installed over the next Scottish Parliament term, and the new Scottish Government needs to increase the pace to build a credible pathway that builds clean-heat installer capacity.

Our policy asks

To create the greatest impact, the next Scottish Government and parliament should:

  • making clean heat more affordable through maintaining the universal heat pump subsidy and targeted funding for fuel-poor households and social homes
  • simplifying the consumer journey and introducing a fair regulatory requirement for decarbonising heating
  • accelerate the growth of the clean heat workforce through subsidised training and clear career pathways
