Nesta’s sustainable future mission is focused on reducing household carbon emissions. Changing the way we heat our homes is one of the most impactful things we can do as a country to ensure we’re on track for net zero by 2050.

Our work is focused on:

• bringing down the lifetime cost of low-carbon heating
• increasing the ease and pace of low-carbon heating installations
• increasing people’s awareness and trust in low-carbon heating
• increasing the number of skilled installers

Our aim is to fill evidence gaps. We also want to design, evaluate and scale evidence-based interventions, products and services, shaping ideas for policy change and implementation as we go.

The work of the policy team is to ensure our mission focus on home decarbonisation is responsive to – and couched in – the realities of the UK government’s work on the clean energy mission. We seek to grapple with the evidence, trade-offs, politics and pragmatism of achieving net zero.
