"In light of the crises faced by both the health and social care sector today, it is very disappointing indeed that the main insight we gleaned from this Autumn Statement was that public spending will continue to be constrained. While the Chancellor acknowledged that supporting an ageing population is one of the most pressing issues the country faces, he did not put forward any proposals that set out how the Government plans to manage this in the long-term.

“To create the health and social care system this country urgently needs, we need to achieve a new balance between health provision for people, active health management by people, and mutual support with people. It is only by working in partnership with local communities - drawing on the experience of people with health conditions, carers, workers and those that access the system on a daily basis - that can we fully bring about the sustainable system change that is needed. To do this, we need ambition and commitment from all those involved - most especially from Government.”
