The original Rethinking Parks programme tested and learned from innovative approaches and new operating models with the aim that parks remain free, open and valued community assets.

Nesta, Big Lottery Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund are now seeking organisations and partnerships who are well placed to replicate and adapt some of the most promising and innovative operating models for parks, based on what is working elsewhere in the UK and around the world.

Whilst we are interested in hearing from those who are interested in setting up Park Foundations or incorporating a focus on parks within a Business Improvement District (BID), we are open to considering replication of other innovative approaches to park management that contribute overall to the park’s financial sustainability. Funding of up to £200,000 is available to parks partnerships; to find out more on the application criteria, click here.

Here are five examples of park foundations, BIDs and other promising models, that are leading the way towards a more sustainable future for local parks.
