While heat pumps are a cornerstone of the UK’s transition to clean heat, the installation process remains significantly more complex than replacing a traditional gas boiler. This journey is currently hindered by a range of systemic barriers, including intricate policy requirements, technical installation hurdles and a lack of clear, accessible information for consumers. These obstacles frequently create uncertainty for homeowners and industry professionals alike, which can slow the adoption of clean heating technologies and strain the resources of those delivering them.

However, it is increasingly clear that these barriers are not insurmountable. Across the sector, industry leaders and researchers are developing practical, innovative solutions designed to streamline the transition and resolve long-standing issues within the installation journey.

On Thursday 5 March, 12:00–13:15 GMT, we explored the latest insights and advancements in heat pump adoption. The event began with a presentation of the most recent findings from Nesta’s research, identifying the five primary areas where improvements are most urgently needed to facilitate a more seamless transition to clean heat.

The session featured a series of fast-paced presentations from industry innovators, showcasing bold and viable solutions to the sector's most pressing challenges. These experts shared insights on how to transform policy, technical processes and consumer advice to make heat pump installations more straightforward.

This online event focused on how the sector can move beyond the rhetoric of ‘unsolvable barriers’ toward a more efficient landscape and was of interest to policymakers, energy firms, heating manufacturers and consumer advice organisations.
