What is the event?
On last count there were nearly 400 business incubators and accelerators in the UK; and the number is growing, enabled largely by public funding. However, until now relatively little evidence existed regarding the impact of incubators and accelerators in the UK.
Over the last 18 months Nesta, in partnership with BEIS, LSE, the Open University and Beauhurst, have been conducting research into the impact that these accelerators and incubators are having on the startups they support but also on their wider ecosystems. At this event we will launch our new report which presents the results from this study.
Who is it for and why should I come?
This event is for anyone interested in accelerators and incubators and how we can best support innovation, entrepreneurship and startups in the UK, including policy makers, academics and accelerator and incubator managers.
At the event we will present findings about:
The impact that attending an accelerator has on startup survival, growth, and their ability to raise investment.
What types of support offered by accelerators and incubators (e.g. provision of workspace, mentoring, funding or training) drives this impact
How the launch of an accelerator in a region affects investment into non-accelerated firms
What recommendations we make or public funders, incubators and accelerators:
And Local Enterprise Partnerships about how they can support the sector.
You will hear from a range of accelerator and incubator managers about the impact they are having and what they think policymakers can do to support them to have an even larger impact. You will also have the chance to network with other people interested in accelerators and incubators.
Registration will open at 09:00 with the event starting promptly at 09:30. The session will finish at 11:30 with the opportunity to continue the conversation and learn what your peers might be doing in this space until 12:00.
