About Nesta

Nesta is an innovation foundation. For us, innovation means turning bold ideas into reality and changing lives for the better. We use our expertise, skills and funding in areas where there are big challenges facing society.

This event took place on Thursday 11 May. You can watch the recording below.

To reach the UK’s net-zero goals, we urgently need to make progress on reducing carbon emissions from our housing – but take-up of green home heating alternatives such as solar panels and heat pumps is low.

We worked with the Development Bank of Wales to understand the needs of homeowners in financing green home improvements. For many homeowners, affordability is a barrier. It’s clear that financial support will play a huge role in the green transition at all levels,  particularly in our homes.

Historically, green finance products have not been tested with end users and have failed to generate much public interest. However, financial schemes to support green retrofits can work – and other countries have models to prove this.

We brought together leading experts across the green finance, policy and advocacy sectors on 11 May from 14:00-15:30 to mark the launch of our new report on financing green home upgrades. Madeleine Gabriel, Mission Director of A Sustainable Future, was live in conversation with Andy Regan, Louise Shooter and Cenydd Rowlands to discuss how to make green finance viable for more people and the steps we can take to make this happen.

Why you should watch the recording

This recording will be of particular interest to anyone working in the green finance industry and policymaking, but also to anyone interested in how green retrofits could help the UK reach net zero.
