Prize draw terms & conditions

  1. The Promoter is Nesta, a registered charity in England and Wales 1144091 and Scotland SC042833 and a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales with company number 07706036. Our registered address is 58 Victoria Embankment, London, EC4Y 0DS.
  2. To enter the Prize Draw you must complete and submit the survey before 09:00am on Monday 27 November 2023.
  3. Entry to the Prize Draw is open to UK residents over 18 years only.
  4. Only one entry per individual is permitted.
  5. Employees or family members of employees of Nesta or any person directly or indirectly involved in the organisation or running of the Prize Draw or their direct family members are not eligible for entry.
  6. The winner is eligible to win one of the prizes. The prize is not transferable and non-refundable.
  7. The prize is supplied by a third party as set out on the website (the "Prize Donor”). Nesta reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond the Promoter's control makes it necessary to do so.
  8. The winner will be chosen at random out of all eligible and completed surveys received by the closing date.
  9. The draw will take place on 6 December 2023. The winner will be notified of their prize by the Prize Donor by 21 December 2023 (using the email address provided to Nesta). Only the winner will be notified and no correspondence will be entered into. Entrants shall be responsible for ensuring that the contact details they provide are up to date and accurate.
  10. The winner may be required to send to the Prize Donor full details of their postal address to which the prize will be delivered.
  11. If the winner cannot be contacted by the Prize Donor, does not claim the prize within 28 days of being notified by the Prize Donor or decides to decline the prize, Nesta reserves the right to select a substitute winner.
  12. The name of the winner will be available 28 days after the draw date for a 14 day period by sending a SAE to: Nesta, FAO Installer Survey Team, A Sustainable Future, 58 Victoria Embankment, London, EC4Y 0DS.
  13. Nesta reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equivalent value or cancel the draw at any time at Nesta’s discretion.
  14. No purchase is necessary to enter the Prize Draw.
  15. Nesta accepts no responsibility for the prize being lost, damaged or delayed in the post.
  16. Entry into the draw will be deemed to constitute acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  17. Nesta’s decision is final and binding in all matters.

Please note that the closing date for the prize draw, the date of the prize draw, and the date by which winners will be notified have been updated. This update happened on 2 November 2023 and pushed back each date by approximately two weeks. The original dates were: closing date 13 November 2023, prize draw date 22 November 2023, prize draw notification by 6 December 2023. The dates in the T&C's above have been edited to show the revised dates. Prize draw entrants who completed the survey prior to this change have been notified of the change via email.

What is this privacy notice?
This notice explains how Nesta (the charity running the survey), NJV Ltd (trading as BetaTeach) (a collaborator on running the survey) and the sponsors of the prizes may use any personal information we collect or otherwise process in connection with the heat pump installer survey 2023 (the survey). What is the survey about?
Nesta is a charity that is committed to making it easier for people to use clean and green sources of energy to heat and power their homes. We want to better understand issues that affect heat pump installers. The survey will consist of a series of questions designed to help us understand any issues affecting heat pump installers. All responses will be kept confidential, and the information we gather will be used for internal analysis purposes.


What personal information will be used in the survey?
If you are participating in the survey, the following information about you may be used – name/email address.

What will your personal information be used for?
Nesta will only use this information for the purposes of administering the survey and conducting our analysis of the survey results. If you have provided explicit consent in the survey, your contact details may be used to invite you to participate in research and innovation projects related to your work as a heat pump installer. We will not use your personal information for any other reason.

If you have provided explicit consent in the survey, your contact details, including email, will be passed to NJV Ltd. NJV Ltd works to create positive change for the renewable and clean technology industry by bridging the gap between engineers and policy makers. They may use your information to contact you for non commercial research and innovation purposes as part of work relating to improving policy, regulation and other matters that impact renewables and low-carbon heating engineers.

This survey has been sponsored by a range of companies (the sponsors) who have offered prizes to incentivise participation. Full details of these sponsors can be found here. In the event that you win a prize from one of the sponsors in our prize draw, we will provide your contact details to the sponsor for the purposes of contacting you about your prize.

If you have provided explicit consent in the survey, your contact details including email will be passed to the sponsors, who may use your information to contact you for marketing purposes.

What are the legal reasons for using your personal information?
The legal reason that Nesta will rely on for using your personal information is “legitimate interests” as set out in Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation. This means that Nesta have a legitimate interest in using your personal information for the administration and delivery of the survey, and to facilitate your participation in the survey. We have considered what we are trying to do and what personal information we need to have access to in order to be able to do that. We have carefully considered your own rights and interests and we do not believe these override the important work we are going to do.

The legal reason that NJV Ltd and the sponsors will rely on for using your personal information is “consent” as set out in Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation. This means that NJV Ltd and the sponsors have been given clear consent from you to process their personal data for a specific purpose.

Your participation in the survey is not mandatory and you are able to withdraw from the survey at any time in which case your information will no longer be processed for the purposes of the survey and will be deleted (unless required to be retained to comply with applicable law).

Who is responsible for your personal information?
Nesta will be the controller of the personal information. This means we are responsible for how we use your information and ensuring this complies with laws and regulations that apply. We use the survey platform Alchemer to administer the survey, and they only process the personal information on our instructions. Alchemer operates in the US. For more information see the Alchemer privacy policy. If you agree to participate in any survey that will form part of any research project, we will tell you at the time you take part how your information will be used for the particular research project or programme, and how long it will be kept for.

Will we transfer your information to a foreign country?
We will not transfer your personal information outside of UK or Europe specifically for the purposes of this Programme. Nesta uses a number of third party hosted systems for administration purposes that may be hosted outside of the UK. How do we keep your information safe?
Nesta takes our responsibility to protect your personal information very seriously. We take measures and follow procedures that aim to ensure no one can illegally access your personal information, or it cannot be accidentally deleted or sent to anyone else.

Measures that we take include using encryption (ie, password protection), ensuring systems have appropriate anti-virus protection, ensuring all people who have access to your personal information are adequately trained and that access to your personal information is given only to those who need it.

We have procedures in place to deal with any loss or unauthorised access to your personal information and will notify you and any applicable regulator of any such loss or unauthorised access where the law says we have to.

How long will we keep your information for?
We will only keep the personal information for as long as we need to administer the survey and analyse the survey results. We expect to delete the personal information on or before 22 February 2024. Where you have consented for us to contact you in future within the survey, we will keep this information for six years from the date of your consent.
