Smarter data for better AI - 17 Feb 2020 09:00 – 17 Feb 2020 12:15

What is the event?

Join us at Nesta for Smarter Data for Better AI, an event where we will present new findings about the composition, evolution and impact of AI research, and launch Nesta’s new report The Future of Minds and Machines.

Our first panel will discuss how data science and innovation-mapping methods can help us to examine the impacts and trends of AI with more detail and timeliness, giving us smarter data about smarter machines. This session will be followed by a debate on how AI can be applied towards addressing societal challenges, where the collective intelligence of society is amplified and empowered rather than manipulated and exploited.

By better understanding current trends in AI, we can move towards better strategic investment that refocuses priorities on public benefit. The public sector and civil society in particular stand to gain by this shift in the narrative.

Who is it for and why should I come?

This event is for public sector innovators, policymakers, charities, technologists, investors and funders and researchers, as well as those wanting to take advantage of new opportunities in AI and collective intelligence.

During this session, you will learn about data science methods to measure AI activity and its impacts. It will also be a chance to engage with the debate about collective intelligence and AI, learning about current use cases and how the field can flourish in the future. Jointly hosted by Nesta’s Innovation Mapping team and the Centre for Collective Intelligence Design, the event will also feature perspectives from prominent figures in academia, policy and the public sector.
