About the event

Over the next year, Nesta's Government Innovation Team is seeking to support local authority innovators to showcase, accelerate and evaluate new models for delivering services and addressing social challenges.

Consensus is growing that traditional models of public service delivery are no longer viable or effective in some areas. We and many in the sector are interested in what alternative models may be viable. Some of those models may be direct replacements for specific services. Others are more macro in their nature, often moving ‘upstream’ of social issues with the aim of preventing certain needs from arising in the first place, and may not look like a service at all. We’re interested in the whole spectrum as part of our agenda to reimagine public services.

Who is the event for?

The event is aimed at local authority innovators and those interested in alternative models for delivering public services.

This event will be a valuable opportunity for all the participants to take some time out of their day jobs and think about the long term in a stimulating and creative way. The workshop will:

Inspire - Presentations and panel discussions will set the scene and introduce the ideas informing our work.
Connect - We will bring together different parts of local government from different places to exchange ideas and experiences.
Challenge - We want to test our ideas and make sure they’re clear and relevant. We believe critique will make our work stronger and more useful to the sector.
