Written by one of the pioneers of research on collective intelligence (the ability of groups to work and think together), Superminds explores how computers can help create more intelligent superminds through artificial intelligence, and hyperconnectivity: connecting humans to one another at massive scales and in rich new ways.

Thomas W. Malone is the Patrick J. McGovern Professor of Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management and the founding director of the MIT Centre for Collective Intelligence. He is the author of The Future of Work, and he has published more than 100 articles, research papers, and book chapters; been an inventor on 11 patents; and co-edited three books.

This lunchtime conversation brought together Geoff Mulgan, author of Big Mind, and Thomas Malone to further our understanding of what works and how a deliberate approach to design of these systems will help us to capitalise on the exciting new opportunities for problem solving and innovation.

During the event, our speakers discussed the far-reaching implications for everything from the way we make business decisions to how we address global issues such as climate change and human rights, and even for democracy itself. This was an inspiring lunchtime discussion on the future of intelligence and how to make the most of combining human capabilities and technological advances.
