What I do

Theo is a Researcher in the Policy and Research team. His interests lie in political economy, the collaborative economy, tech for good and democracy.

Biography

Prior to Nesta he worked at the mental health charity Blue Smile in Cambridge. He also volunteered for Serlo, an open-source educational website, and spent 3 months at the think-tank Demos.

Theo holds a Master's with disctinciton in Politics and International Relations from the University of Cambridge, and an undergaduate degree in Politics from the University of Warwick.

For many years it’s been a cliche to claim that information or data are the new oil. This fits well for the purposes of commodifying and selling data, but the analogy poorly matches data’s core properties.

We recently caught up with Citizenme, a service that helps people to capture the rich insights in their data. In what follows, team member Josh talks to me about releasing personal data’s monetary and social value, online privacy as a fundamental human right, and plans for the app to integrate new features using privacy-preserving AI.
