What I do
Matt is leading the development of Nesta’s work in Impact Investing alongside Joe Ludlow.
The first £25m impact fund is targeting innovative ventures that use technology to address three major social challenges in the UK: an ageing population, jobs for young people, and sustainability.
Matt also leads the venture investing team which manages a £25m evergreen fund which currently has 20 active direct investments and five limited partner positions.
Matt joined Nesta in 2010 from 3i where he was a partner in their venture capital business. Matt was at 3i for 15 years and invested in a number of notable successes. including Vistorm (sold to EDS), Datanomic (sold to Oracle), Nimbus Partners (sold to TIBCO), Achilles (sold to Hg capital) and Garlik (sold to Experian). Matt then led the disposal of 3i's venture investment portfolio in a series of international secondary transactions.
Matt is an ACA qualified accountant and had a ten-year corporate finance career at Ernst & Young prior to joining 3i. He is currently on the venture committee of the BVCA and on the Board of the UK Business Angels Association.
