What I do

Vicki joined Nesta in 2003 and headed up challenge prize design at the Centre for Challenge Prizes.

The Centre, which launched in April 2012, aims to bring together expertise and interest in challenge prizes to help build understanding of how these prizes can play an effective and strategic role in the stimulation and support of innovation.

She was a senior manager working on the design and delivery of innovation programmes at Nesta.  In her 10 years with the organisation she led and worked on programmes covering a broad range of topics including creativity in learning, climate change, community innovation, early years and public services.

Papers are now online from the US Public Sector Prizes event organised by the Case Foundation, the Joyce Foundation and the White House Office of Science and Technology policy earlier this year.

What do the marine chronometer, baked beans and the private spaceflight industry have in common? They were all developed or accelerated in response to challenge prizes.

Last week I attended the Ashden Awards ceremony. As ever the evening provided much hope and inspiration, through the ethos of the awards themselves and through the winners and runners up. Do take a look at both the national and international projects.

Maybe it's the times, but we opened the Lab yesterday, not with a bang, but with a mighty serious debate. How could we achieve more by working together?
