What I do

Neil Thompson is an Assistant Professor of Innovation and Strategy at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He researches how innovation happens and what its effects are. This includes work around cutting-edge technologies: Moore's Law, Cloud Computing, and Synthetic Biology, as well as how firms race to come up with and patent their innovations.

Funded by the IGL's Grants Programme, this trial by MIT and EPFL looks into the market impact of patenting. Do products protected by patents face fewer competitor products? Neil Thompson of MIT explains the research proposal in their first blog.
