What I do

Lydia was a senior researcher in Nesta’s Explorations team, focusing on how minds, systems and technologies come together to perform better at complex challenges with particular focus on health and on big data and artificial intelligence in public services. She worked closely with Nesta’s Health Lab and complemented traditional research with new methodologies, fictions and interactive formats.

She tweets @lydnicholas.

Before joining Nesta Lydia worked as a researcher across technology sectors, with particular focus on media and on medical and biological information. She has an MSc in Digital Anthropology and wrote her dissertation on Public Understanding of Big Data and Data Collection practices.

Hands hold health placards
In 2017, we’ll see more people uniting to fight for better health and care, enabled by digital technology, and potentially leading to stronger engagement with the system, says Nesta Health Lab.
At the first annual summit of the Cambridge Rare Disease Network we saw examples of collective intelligence making real impact; new technologies, platforms, and networks supporting decisions, analysis, and discovery; speeding progress on the route towards new treatments and cures.
