What I do

Jessica leads the communications activity for Bethnal Green Ventures, an accelerator programme for startups who want to use technology to solve big social and environmental problems. Prior to this she worked in the policy and research team at Nesta where she focused on accelerators and early stage venture support.

Before Nesta, Jessica worked as a senior communications manager at Matter&Co, a communications agency focused on social impact, where she led marketing and communication campaigns for social ventures. Prior to this she was a corporate communications manager specialising in investment management. She has strong links with the social enterprise and social investment community, and was part of the team that delivered Good Deals in 2010 and 2011, the UK’s leading social investment conference.
Originally from New Zealand, Jessica has a BCS from Auckland University of Technology. In her spare time she plays netball and runs with GoodGym, an organisation connecting exercise with helping communities.
This weekend the Financial Times reported on the rise in private sector jobs in some of the regions of the North of England and the Midlands hardest hit by the financial crisis. In line with this growth, we're seeing areas like Newcastle becoming more attractive as startup hubs for entrepreneurs.

A new support programme for start-ups, launched this week, could be moving us one step closer to a world where all our devices are intelligent, connecting and sharing data via the web.
