What I do

Donald is the Director of the Cascade Centre for Children’s Social Care Research and Development at Cardiff University.

Cascade carries out a wide range of work to support better services and outcomes in Children’s Social Care including projects evaluating specific services or whole systems changes, studies of the views and experiences of children and young people and work to support the development of social care professionals.

Donald also teaches on the social work courses and supervises PhD and Professional Doctorate students.

Donald joined Cardiff University in 2015, having previously been the Director of the Tilda Goldberg Centre at the University of Bedfordshire.

Donald is a qualified social worker, and his work tends to focus on how we might better understand and improve social work services.

In particular, he has recently completed studies exploring the nature of good practice, how it influences outcomes and the factors that support or impede effective service delivery.

In our third article focused on the thematic areas of Innovate to Save, Donald Forrester discusses how the programme provides an exciting opportunity for services and individuals in Wales to reduce the need for children to come into care.
