Tom works as Technical Lead of Collective Intelligence Product Design where he supports projects through the design and delivery of innovative technology prototypes.
Prior to Nesta, Tom worked at Newcastle University's OpenLab as a senior research software engineer, designing and delivering technology interventions for research projects. This ranged from digital public consultations and law enforcement crime-forecasting games, through to eliciting climate change stories from citizens at COP26.
He also spent considerable time at Northumbria University and University of Lincoln where he worked as a research assistant doing research around social media and game design. Tom holds a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction from Northumbria University focused around the design of digital technologies to encourage criticality and reflection on socio-political topics.
Outside of work he can be found tinkering with anything mechanical, cooking up some elaborate dish, or enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
