Why are we doing this?
We want to make innovation the new normal, and we recognise the importance of building innovation practices into everyday life.
There is a lot of online content and training on innovation already out there, but for busy people it can be difficult to know what is really useful. DIY Learn cuts through this, presenting a collection of the most useful and widely used tools in the DIY Toolkit. The aim is to make innovation learning more accessible in order to accelerate the uptake of innovation methods.
What are we doing?
We have created a set of ten short, practical modules on core innovation tools and methods that are based on Nesta’s DIY Toolkit. The modules are freely available on The Open University’s OpenLearn Works website and can be downloaded anytime, anywhere. DIY Learn includes:
- Problem Definition
- Business Model Canvas
- Theory of Change
- Personas
- Fast Idea Generator
- Creative Workshops
- Evidence Planning
- Building Partnerships
- SWOT
- Question Ladder
Through our Development Innovation and You posts, we continue to bring you updates on the DIY tools and their impact, as well as sharing wider news and views about Nesta’s international development work, and profiling innovators doing exciting work at the frontiers of the field.
Background
Since its launch in March 2014, the DIY toolkit has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times by people in more than 200 countries and territories. It is one of the international development sector’s key innovation resources. Here at Nesta we use the toolkit in face-to-face learning sessions with NGOs, governments and foundations across the world.
