The event was specifically designed for academics, clinicians, product designers and service providers, to discuss the limits and potential of technology when it comes to addressing the mental health challenges we face as a society.
We are now seeing the emergence of more creative ways of using technology and data to address mental health issues, including digital avatars to develop new forms of therapy, the use of Artificial Intelligence to anticipate when someone’s mental health could be deteriorating, and virtual reality to convey what it is truly like to experience particular mental health conditions. Does this signal the start of a new chapter for the role of technology in addressing mental health challenges?
The event provided a chance to debate some of the opportunities these innovations present, while also addressing the ethical and clinical questions they give rise to. The audience were also invited to experience live demonstrations of virtual reality and hear directly from teams building new solutions.
