Amidst the cynicism and negativity about the future of local government there is a growing movement of local authorities that are taking a more optimistic and ambitious stance in the face of the significant challenges we face.
These are the councils working in new ways to create solutions that not only do more with less, but also do a better job, often working with citizens and communities to unlock their contributions and creativity.
Over the past two years Nesta has been working with the Local Government Association to support a small group of these through the Creative Councils programme.
As we come to the end of that programme, we wanted to share what we’re learning, but we also recognise that there is a much broader movement for innovation across the sector that we want engage with, learn from and elevate.
This event was an opportunity to share lessons and insights from the work of the five Creative Councils, but also to draw on the experience and practice of a much wider group of people who are often working below the radar to create the next generation of public services.
Sharing what we've learned
We've pulled together all the insights from the councils' individual journeys in the series of learning videos below.
