The Skills Survey: what are employers looking for?

To better understand how to prepare young people to thrive in a workforce that is continually changing, we need to know what skills employers value and how they identify these skills in potential employees.

To answer these questions, Nesta has been working with the City of London Corporation to produce a short survey focused on what skills employers prioritise and how they identify them when recruiting. We are keen to attract employers from a range of sectors, different sized organisations and levels of experience to fill in the survey so we get a broad picture of what employers are after. It should only take 10 minutes and will really help to inform our work.

We will also ask if you would like to stay in touch with us about this work, which may include a follow-up interview to dig deeper into some of the questions included in the survey.

Take part in the survey.

How will we use the results?

Nesta has already published research into the future of employment and what skills are likely to be in high demand. The current survey will help to further inform our work in this area and build the evidence base. Crucially, we want to make sure employers’ perspectives are included as we design new programmes to help prepare young people for the world of work.
