LocalGov Digital Makers Day
On Saturday June 21 the LocalGovDigital practitioner network will be hosting LocalGovCamp 2014 in Birmingham – a free ‘unconference’ for local government, by local government. Bringing together frontline council workers, digital services staff, citizen and community groups and the private sector, the event promises to build on the spirit of collaboration and digital innovation at the heart of LocalGovDigital.
As well as the unconference, this year the line-up features several fringe events and Nesta is excited to be partnering with the LocalGovMakers network to host a free Digital Makers hack event on Friday June 20.
Launched by LocalGovDigital earlier this year, LocalGovMakers brings together local government staff working within digital design and development, and at the LocalGovCamp Makers Day they’ll be putting their talents into practice to help solve issues faced by local public services and citizens.
Tickets are free and the hack is open to anyone working in local government or with an interest in coding and designing for public good – all you need to do is register here. Free refreshments will also be provided throughout the day.
The hack takes place from 10am to 4pm at the Bond Company in Birmingham and will run alongside the LocalGovCamp Digital Leadership fringe event. At the end of the day delegates from the Digital Leadership event – including senior local government officers and councillors – will join the hack to watch the final presentations, followed by a drinks reception for all attendees.
Both the event and LocalGovDigital network are important components in a growing movement to build a community of digital innovators within local government, which Nesta is also supporting through the Civic Exchange platform to showcase and promote the reuse of civic software. We’re excited to see what ideas arise from the hack event.
