Vetpulse.tv

Description

Vetpulse.tv is a video podcast, featuring the latest advances and innovations in veterinary science.

Aimed at a global audience of veterinary professionals, episodes are filmed in high definition and typically last about five minutes.

They are viewable online using a PC or laptop or can be downloaded to watch later on a mobile device such as an MP3 player or mobile phone.

Furthermore, veterinary professionals can use the vetpulse.tv 'wiki' (an online collaboration tool that allows users to add and edit web content) to share research insights and collaborate with peers to expand the depth and value of their findings.

Alan Calhoon

"Vetpulse.tv has the same scientific rigour as a traditional print journal but encourages participation by using bite-sized video episodes to illustrate the subject matter in a way that print cannot," says founder Alan Cahoon.

"Not only is the video content relevant and interesting, but you can view it wherever and whenever you want."

Why we supported

Using the reach of new media, Vetpulse.tv provides a broader spectrum of content and is accessible to a larger audience than can be achieved through traditional print journals.

"This project explores the potential for applying technology to reach a niche but global and increasingly mobile market," says Jackie McKenzie, NESTA's Starter for 6 Leader. "An online video magazine is an innovative way of delivering useful content to that audience. It also offers new opportunities for veterinary professionals to network and collaborate."

Impact

With website development work complete, the focus now is to identify episode content which is of use and interest to veterinary professionals, from surgeons, nurses and practice managers through to students and industry suppliers.

The mission then will be to build credibility and market presence.

Alan says: "Exposed to other creative entrepreneurs at Starter for 6, I have been able to refine the Vetpulse.tv concept. I now have a much clearer vision of where I'm going. As a result, I feel I'm not only taking a stronger product to market, but also, getting there quicker."
