What I do

Hugo Mercier is a cognitive scientist studying reasoning and argumentation. With Dan Sperber, he has developed a theory - the argumentative theory of reasoning - which suggests that the main function of human reasoning is to argue: to convince others and to let others convince us. He is currently on leave from his position at the CNRS (France) to work at the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland).
