Centre for Fashion Enterprise
London's pioneering business incubator, supporting and nurturing emerging fashion design talent.
The London Fashion Designer Economy Research
The Designer Fashion sector makes a significant contribution to the UK economy and employment figures. The continuous pipeline of innovative fashion talent is recognised as the main driver behind this success, balancing challenges of a globalised market and production chains. However, many newly established brands do not survive beyond the first few years or fail to capitalise on their innovative potential.
We’ve commissioned the Centre for Fashion Enterprise to identify the main barriers to growth in this sector by qualitatively examining the value and structure of key relationships between fashion designers, manufacturers, retailers, intermediaries and the investment community.

The research is being led by Jo Entwistle, Senior Research Fellow at the London College of Fashion. There is already some evidence that new business models will lead to new “value added” opportunities. The research aims to provide metrics for interpreting success milestones in fashion businesses and suggest new ways of developing and testing innovative business models across the fashion value chain.
The research will be overseen by a panel of experts from the London Development Agency, British Fashion Council, and the Manufacturing Advisory Service, as well as key industry stakeholders.
