Social networks
Social networks
The term was first coined in 1954 by J. A. Barnes. A social network describes actors and their relationships and the ways in which they relate to each other. Relationships are understood in terms of nodes and ties. Nodes refer to the individual actors within the network and ties to the relationships between these actors. Social networks are at the heart of innovation. Social networks can also be virtual and are called online social networks. Members of an online network use the Internet to communicate with each other. They usually communicate by voice, chat, instant message, videoconference and blogs.
